Friends of Guemes Island:

FGI To Donate Funds To Save The Mountain Campaign

Update from Friends of Guemes Island:  April 30, 2009

After careful consideration of the options, the FGI Board of Directors has determined that moving forward to continue the FGI lawsuit FGI brought against Skagit County to stop the late ferry hours would be time consuming, extremely expensive, and likely not produce the desired outcome of the elimination of late weeknight runs.

Between the funds provided by FGI members and the grant we received from the Peach Trust, roughly $7,000 remains in the FGI coffers.  The FGI Board has determined that the best possible use of these funds, at the present time, would be to donate them to the Skagit Land Trust for the purposes of helping to purchase Guemes Mountain and protect it, in perpetuity, from any form of development.  We believe that this use of FGI's funds is consistent with the organization's mission of preserving the rural character of Guemes Island.

Any members of FGI with comments or suggestions on this plan should feel free to contact Gary Davis, Bob Easton, or David Wertheimer to share their thoughts and ideas.

All the best,

The FGI Board of Directors
